The story behind the recipe:
We spent a lot of time looking for this recipe and then trying different recipes for Texas Sheet Cake but none were what Mom remembered. We found the recipe with one of Mom's aunts and were able to make it.
This sheet cake was brought to family parties at Grandma Todd's house and every time it is eaten it brings back memories of time with Grandma and family.
Ingredients:
Cake
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 squares margarine
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup water
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda
Icing (while hot)
1 square margarine
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
6 tablespoons milk
4 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup nuts (optional)
Directions
Sheet Cake:
In a large mixing bowl combine flour sugar and salt.
Boil margarine, cocoa powder, and water then add to the flour mixture.
Add the two beaten eggs, milk, vinegar, and baking soda.
Grease and flour a cookie sheet.
Bake at 350° for 20 - 25 mins
Icing (while hot):
Boil margarine, cocoa powder, and milk.
Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and it desired nuts.
Pour over the sheet cake (while the icing is hot)
Cool in fridge.
Cut into squares
